Bio/blurb
Chris Woodford (Christopher James Woodford—he/him/his) was born on 13 December 1966, had his first national magazine article published at the age of 13, and has been writing about science and technology ever since. He graduated from Cambridge University (Girton College) in 1988, where he specialized in physics and experimental psychology, dropped out of a Ph.D. in neuroscience, and then trained as an advertising copywriter at the School of Communication Arts with John Gillard. After spending much of the 1990s working as an environmental campaigner, he moved into educational publishing, and has since written, edited, or contributed to dozens of popular science books, including the worldwide best-selling Cool Stuff series for Dorling Kindersley. His last book, Atoms Under The Floorboards, won The American Institute of Physics Science Writing Award for Books, 2016 and was a Physics World Top 10 Book of 2015. His latest book, Breathless, was an Independent Book of the Month in March 2021. Chris also writes the popular science education website Explain that Stuff, which demystifies everyday science for over a million readers a month. Chris now lives in Dorset surrounded by sheep and the sea.
